Anthropomorphic
When animals begin to look a little too human.
What happens when we see ourselves through the eyes of other species?
In Anthropomorphic, animals take on human roles, habits and contradictions, becoming mirrors of the world we have created. Through satire, symbolism and playful observation, these paintings explore our relationship with power, justice, freedom, technology and the natural world.
The little black bird and mouse appear in each painting.
The little black bird always looking in from the outside, a symbol of wisdom and awareness, observing the bizarre theatre of human existence with a knowing eye, seeing patterns and absurdities that others overlook.
The Mouse, the follower. A symbol of blind conformity, mistaking the safety of the crowd for the freedom of choice.
Beneath the humour lies a more uncomfortable question: are we observing human behaviour—or simply recognising ourselves?
Because sometimes, it takes an animal to tell us the truth about being human.
